Question Pentax K10D & 50mm PK 'M' 1.7 lens

Hi all..

I have just purchased a 50mm PK 'M' F1.7 lens from e-bay, the lens optics all seem in excellent condition. I have several questions I hope someone can assist me with:

With my K10d can I just use this lens. I have set the aperture ring to 'Permitted' is this correct?

My main issue is no matter what setting I use I can see the shutter speed Ok but the not the 'F' stop is this correct? If so is there a way, using this lens, that I can obtain a valid shutter speed and F stop combination?

New to the DSLR world so bear with me please...

Cheers

Poul

An M lens has no electrical contacts to transmit the aperture to the DSLR, so you will never see the correct 'F' stop.

You need to set the camera the mode to M first. By pressing the green button, the camera will close the aperture to the chosen value and set the shutter speed accordingly. That will do.

Hope I could help.

No, won't see aperture showing in the lcd screen, but shooting either with the green mode button or completely manual, you shouldn't have any problems. I have a M 1.7, and an "A" 1.2, both work very well and you can't beat the older Pentax glass.
