Default Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 zoom with VC

Hi All, Does anyone have any experience with the Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 with VC? I am thinking buying this lens to match up with my Canon EF 70-200mm, and the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens to gain full coverage from ultra wide, to max telephoto. I also own the Tamron 200-500mm tele. I am mainly interested image quality, ease of operation, and minimum distortion. I've read several reviews of this specific lens and all seem to be between very good, and excellent. This seems to be the only lens in this range with VC, IS, OS. I do like to hand hold my camera and lenses, so VC in this lens is a necessity.

Thanks

There was a total lack of response to my question about the Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD lens, I ended up ordering it from Adorama. It arrived about a week ago, and due to the weather I was unable to shoot some photos. When the lens arrived it came with a software bundle called "Silkypix" which is a program supplied by Tamron for correcting Chromatic Aberration in RAW photos. The program has many other facets, but those are disabled. I used it on one RAW photo using the SP 24-70mm lens. The program requires you to select which SP lens you have. The program allows you to convert the RAW image to either JPG, or TIFF. It is a Japanese program interpreted to English, so the words are a little hard to understand, since they are not standard.

I have had my Tamron since February and love it. You will regret having this lens. You cannot compair to the canon counterpart. use is on almost a daily basis and feel that it is as good as canon. Besides sharpness this lens has VC...... Let me know if you have any other questions.

Did you mean "You will not regret having this lens." ?

but generally speaken they are good for the money and some even prefer tamron glass above camera branded glass .

Well Dirk, that is a bit of general statement!
Many of my photo's are made with the older adaptall manual focus lenses from Tamron. I like them sometimes more ('they give the old look') than Canon glass.

The Tamron SP 24-70mm VC lens seems to have found a home on my 7D Mark II, and 6D. It is a great lens, and so far on par with my "L" quality glass. I did have to micro adjust the lens through the range. I did send it back to Tamron for a chip upgrade when I got my 7D Mark II, and also my 6D. On both cameras the focus is faster, and more accurate. I also had to re-micro adjust the lens to both cameras. Tamron makes just as good glass as Canon "L" quality, but only in Tamron SP lenses. Presently, I shoot with the Tamron SP 150-600mm VC, Tamron SP 24-70mm VC, and the Tamron 18-270mm VC lenses.

A few months ago, I added the 5D Mark IV to my collection. I felt the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC would still be the mainstay in my lenses used. Wrong. I started to have some soft images even when taken on a tripod, with VC off. Using the lens for portraits became difficult because of what looked like horizontal blur. I sent the lens into Tamron, and added the 5D Mark IV to the calibration. I got the email they received the lens and was working on it. I called and spoke to the Tamron tech, and found the problem was in the specs of the Mark IV. I got the lens back, after a cleaning, calibration, and firmware upgrade. Now the lens is tack sharp. I should have tested it on the 6D prior to sending in, that would have given me a better insight of the problem. Actually, on the 5D Mark IV the VC was always on, but ran erratically, giving false movement.

A former assistant had the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 with VC, and the Nikon 24-70/2.8. She found the Tamron to be a sharper lens, and sold the Nikon lens.

This tale of repeated FW/chip tweaks
leaves me much more appreciative of
in-body [sensor-based] stabilization.

The only thing IBIS needs to "know"
is the FL in use.
