Tracfone winds up costing me $7* a month and I can even make international calls on it. I've been landlineless for more than 10 years now. Use cable for the internet, only thing available at my apartment. Bell South bought AT&T and dumped me, best thing that ever happened, I was paying AT&T $50/mo for cell service.

*Depends on how many minutes you use, prepaid cards.

I've used cell phones (now GSM/UMTS) for sending and receiving calls and text messages for the past 15 years. Still have my landline, though, but haven't used it for telephone since then, but use it strictly for dsl (with WiFi).
