Anyone else starting to think we don't have what it takes anymore to win the war on terrorism. We are too politically correct. WE are too afraid of being accused of "racial profiling" or the like. We are afraid to act on suspicion. The liberals will call that freedom, I'm not sure. I don't want to start a great debate, I'm just wondering if anyone can explain to me why this happened and why our President is warning us not to jump to conclusions.
Few things have iritated me as much as all of this. Very few. I feel more hopeless for this country than I ever have before. I'm just saying, when they go to replace the psychiatrist position on the post, will they be accused of wrong doing when they hire Dr Joe Smith instead of Dr. Hussain Mohammed? My prayers go out to the friends and families of the victims. __________________

Your right Fran. Unfortunately we've come to a point where most qualified is no longer the cheif consideration in employment or placemement. All this "evening of the playing field" in my opinion is just more subtile movement toward socialism.
We place way too much importance on political correctness than just correctness. Steve |

The political leaders are going to say the right things to please each other...but this just deepened the divide between us. Here was a trusted officer in the military who took an oath before his own god and broke it.
Soldiers may not say anything to each other but I can guarantee there will be some tension in the ranks for a while. Same as when the grenade was tossed by the Muslim US soldier during the early Iraq years. And President Obama...your statement regarding the shootings this afternoon...not your greatest work. One of the most emotionless, pointless statements I've ever seen a person make regarding something of this magnitude. You had more passion for your immediate condemnation of the white police officer in the Cambridge Gates incident. That's just sad. |

However, it is an entirely different matter for the government to pick the winners and subsidize the losers in an attempt to ensure everyone gets the same score..... That has nothing to do with fairness. If I have leaned too hard on the analogy, then look at it this way.. The government should attempt to ensure equal opportunity in life, not equal results. |

Where are all my liberal friends? Please. Tell us what to think. We are at a loss? Explain why this happened, who is to blame?, and why Obama "half-assed" a statement like he did? I wonder how long before it disappears from the news, another day? |

Well, I'm a Reservist serving on active duty in Iraq, and, of course, we heard about the shootings immediately. And this is my take (unofficial, of course) on the situation:
Fran, agree with you about America being too politically correct. The military is ready and willing to properly fight terrorism...our political leaders tie our hands. As an example, the US Post Office operating here in Iraq would NOT allow me to mail little plastic toy Army men to my 5 yr old son back home because of "what they represent" (direct quote from the unionized postal worker). Apparently, the tiny little guns that the tiny little army men are carrying can be "offensive" to people...uh, okay...when I responded with, "hey, we're in the military for cryin' out loud, we deal with guns..." yeah, he didn't like that response. And shortly after my issue, my buddy who is returning home next month and wants to send some stuff home was told that he couldn't send his weapon sling (brand new in a SEALED plastic bag) because of the same issue! Brian, I along with all of my coworkers over here thought the very same thing about the President's statement regarding not rushing to judgement....all of us basically looked at each other and said "what about the beer summit?" So, you beat me to that one! Medowlark, Amen from me, too! Ron, couldn't agree more about the MSM! Dryadsdad, yes, you are correct. Officially, it's called the "Medal of Honor." However, in common speak, the Congressional Medal of Honor is an acceptable term and I would venture that relatively few Americans would know the difference...I wouldn't call it an Obama lie and I certainly would not call him a "dim-witted, self-centered hump" for that reason...there are plenty of other reasons!!!!! |

I would. Look, the issue I had with the way Obama handled the killings at Ft Hood was that his entire approach was a discussion about himself (as usual). Rather than mourn the dead, sympathize with the ones left behind and commiserate with the wounded, he used the incident to brag about how he was going to handle the situation handed him.
Compare with FDR who didn't use Pearl Harbor to brag about his imagined accomplishments. He NEVER used the words 'me' or 'I' in his 'infamy' speech. It wasn't about HIM, it was about the nation and the dead seamen at Pearl. Let's take a big step down and compare to Bush 43. After 9/11, he didn't issue 'call outs' or led a cheering section. He mourned the loss of life. And you are dead wrong, Willy. Obama did lie. Read my post again. The individual who Obama said won the Medal of Honor was not awarded that medal. He was not awarded any military award at all. He may not have even served in the military. The lie that Obama told was that this individual was awarded the Medal of Honor. The guy squatting in the president's office is disgusting on every level. |

Dryasdad, I misunderstood what you were calling the Obama lie (hey, it's late over here in Iraq)...don't know anything about that individual so I'll retract my statement about the "Obama lie." And trust me...I have no fondness for this President...I agree with your statements about how he handled the situation vs how GWB handled 9/11...like I said, it's late over here...time for bed!

Hey Willy
Good to hear from you. I'm glad you realized I was referring to the politicians and those answering the politicians and not to active duty soldiers like yourself. There are few people I respect more than our servicemen. Your stories make me angry. I don't know what it's gonna take to get rid of that type of ridiculousness. I don't have the answers, and from what I can tell, noone else does either. Oh well.... |

Just curious. I didnt see the speech, but what did Obama say or do that some are finding offensive?
As for the racial profiling, Im guessing thats because the shooter was of middle eastern descent? That guy could of been anyone. Could of had as caucasian a name as one can get and still do this. We cant get hung up on the name or where someone's from. Or we would of targeted all the Scottish people after Timothy McVae blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City. Feel sympathy for the victims and anger at the person pulling the trigger. There is no need for it to go further then that. __________________
