And we wonder why atheletes (not all) act like a-holes once they get that multimillion dollar contract.

I'm sure there's worse things that happen in the pile. But still, that was obviously caught on camera, and cannot be condoned. a half-game suspension is just a joke. if you're going to punish someone, do it wholeheartedly or don't do it at all.

If you aren't right then are close to being right. My guess is that they'd arrange for some other token punishment that did not involve loss of playing time. The truth is Florida needs Brandon Spikes more than he needs Florida at this point. This is his final season of eligibility and he is expected to be the first inside linebacker chosen by the NFL.

While certainly not excusing that incident which is flagrant (and disappointing to me personally since Brandon Spikes went to my old high school), this is hardly the first incident of unsportmanlike play. Ty Cobb was known to sharpen his spikes, pitchers have always thrown "purpose pitches", late hits are abundant in football at all levels, and we will not even discuss the NHL which is a bastion of kindness and sportsmanship.

Yes we will. I went to an NHL boxing match once and a hockey game broke out. Sorry, I had to go there.

You should try playing Rugby league against this guy !
(Excerpt from wikipedia)

John Hopoate
Controversy

During a 2001 clash with the North Queensland Cowboys, Hopoate, in an attempt to unsettle several of his opponents, inserted his fingers in three players' anuses, the first occurring during the seventh minute of play. At the conclusion of the match the matter was immediately referred to the rugby league judiciary where a case was put forward from both sides on 28 March. Hopoate claimed in front of the panel of judges that he was simply attempting to give all three players "a wedgie"[3] with his fingers, denying he had done anything wrong and that he was "a great believer in what happens on the field should stay there"[4].
The three victims in the case, Cowboys players Glenn Morrison, Peter Jones and Paul Bowman all disagreed with the reasoning put forward by Hopoate and his team. Jones stated, "It wasn't a wedgie. That's when your pants are pulled up your arse. I think I know the difference between a wedgie and someone sticking their finger up my bum."[5] Bowman stated that he was "disgusted" and "couldn't believe it."[6] As a result of this incident, radio comedy duo Roy and HG referred to Hopoate as 'Stink Finger', until he began his professional boxing career when they changed this to 'Stink Fist'.

Watch for Jerry Jones to pick him up in the draft. Just the kind of character that will fit into the Cowboys organization.

If he could run a sub-4.3 40-yard dash and played receiver, Al Davis would pick him up in Oakland.

At least he didn't bite off his opponent's ear as Mike Tyson did.

It got increased to a full-game suspension.

This is after, of course, his victim said Spikes shouldn't be suspended.

There's no place for this crap, anywhere, but it is interesting that Easley thinks it's all good.

My question, after reading both of these links, is what the hell is Georgia doing playing Tennessee Tech?????? As an aside, I went to Tn Tech and they have never been close to being in the same league as the SEC!

Back to the suspension...Spikes asked Meyers to make it a full game's suspension.

Because Georgia wanted to win a game?

Seriously, probably like the community college teams Florida and others face their first 2 games, Ga probably paid them a ton of money to come to town and get beat up.

Like Douglas said, they play "body bag games", where small schools come to town, get beat up, and collect a nice paycheck and get some exposure for their program. San Jose State University had one against USC earlier this year, and despite talking it up for two years as not being a body bag game.... it was something like 42-6.

Appalachian State over Michigan in 2007 was another supposed "body bag game".
