Just an update on MS Security Essentials: I've been using it for many months now and continue to be impressed with its small footprint, ease of use, and its detection rate and ability to "clean" infected files. Not seeing any reason to pony up for a fee-based antivirus package.

That's great! I have been the Johnny Appleseed" of MSE! Everyone that I help, or advise about their systems I recommend MSE.

Who is Johnny Appleseed. Is he a member here

Well, you can call me AAM So-Pleased if you wish. For I got rid of AVG this morning and replaced it with MSE. The PC started much faster after the reboot.

My wife is using MSE on her laptop... I'm still using ESET because it's paid for at the moment. I won't have to cross that bridge for awhile yet.

Thanks for the feed back on MSE everyone, I have been regretting installing Norton (free from my Internet provider) as it slowed my boot time to several minutes. I installed MSE and it's like night and day.

Good for you AAM! While visiting a friend in Fla this week I replaced AVG with MSE on his 4 systems.

Yes Johnny is a special member here.....

o'henry, I replaced a 3-user McAfee before it's expiration and was glad I did.....since MSE is free it wasn't an issue for me.

Im on ESET NOD32 as well the Security Suite. After having gone through many of the AVs I found it to be the best as far as, running seamlessly in the backround. I never had any AVs on my computer for years and, didnt get one till I got a virus logging on the MSN many years ago. I may try the MSE when my sub runs out but, I really like the NOD32 program.

It is good that you have had your eyes opened. One thing to remember is that both Norton and McCaffe hate your computer. This goes for any program they put out. Also when you unistall them they are not full uninstalled. They have all sorts of things they leave behind. I had to go through everything on a friends machine to get rid of all of his Norton BS. I consider both of those companies to be a virus on their own.

I hate to keep beating Microsoft's drum, but Security Essentials is the least obtrusive AV program I've ever used. And I think over the years I've used them all, including your ESET NOD32.

I'm with you Joves...I'm very happy with ESET Security Suite, it's never let any viruses/trojans/worms through, done well as a spam filter, and I've never really noticed it running , but when the subscription expires, I'll probably strongly consider MSE ... have to save my pennies so I can afford to pay taxes.
