You do realise that the money you give to churches is used to (in kind of your words) shove religion down the throats of overs and tell them they're going to hell. Why would you give money to churches ? I refuse to give any money to faith based charities as I fear my money may be used to force religion upon others.

That's a little bit ridiculous, given that atheism is neither a doctrine nor an organization. It's only a convenient description for the absence of a particular belief. Some people who are atheists I suppose have felt threatened by the actions of religious groups and have organized advertisements show others that *not believing in god* is perfectly okay, and that you are not alone in doing so. Particularly during the last 8 years of US Bush insanity, the fundamentalists were a palpable and very threatening presence, with billboards and TV spots and newspaper ads, etc. I think some people have decided to counter with their own advertisements; but it's not like I get together with other people just because they're atheists. An atheist convention would be ridiculous because we'd have nothing to talk about.

To call it a religion or a faith with it's "own little agenda" is ridiculous, because it's not. It's a description of a whole host of people who may believe any one of a trillion things, just not in god.

Atheism does imply a number of things, of course. It implies you don't believe that god waved his magic fairy wand and made the world in 7 days. It doesn't mean you necessarily believe in evolution, or in the scientific philosophy & method. You might be a hardened skeptic-of-everything atheist (they call those "Philosophy Majors / Barristas"), or you might be a hippie universal-consciousness energy love-vibe hippie "spiritual but not religious" atheist.

Atheism isn't a thing. I'm an A-unicornist - but you can't say anything else about my personality from that (except maybe that I'm probably older than 3 ).

Christianity is a thing. While there are a lot of variations of it (just compare 7th-day Adventists to Methodists to Mormons), they all share a common set of beliefs. Atheists don't. They just don't think there's a big sky daddy keeping an eye on them.

walter23 made nothing but the most insightful of points and really should be considered the Highest Human Authority and Ultimate Judge of Everything. I recommend giving him high moderator status, in addition to immediately constructing a virtual shrine to him and placing it squarely in the middle of the front page of the photocamel website.

A few people, but particularly brian.austin, should be banned for failure to turn their lives over to walter23. And furthermore for failure to adapt to the Changing Post-Edits of the Dharma.
