My Sister-In-Law is coming in for a day from Australia.
Okay, she's not flying in for the day, she's going to be in the states for a couple of weeks.
Doing a bit of traveling and visiting. She'll be doing Thanksgiving at another S-I-L's home and then coming up to Northern California.

Fortunately she's only going to be at my house for one day. I'm going to ask at work if they need any overtime assistance that day.

This woman has a Ph.D. in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. Her favorite thing to do is to try to push my buttons. When she finds one, she keeps pushing it.
The last two times she has stayed with us, I was on the verge of throwing her out.
Maybe that's why she's only coming for the day? She knows I'm not going to take her llama anymore.

Edit: I see that even Photocamel has it's limits on colorful metaphors. Llama is not exactly the word I chose.

Fast and easy way to fix this:

1. Bring the dog, cat, or any small pets she knows about to a friend's house for the day.
2. When she walks in, have the gun disassembled and in the process of cleaning on the table or out in the open. I personally like the kitchen counter.
3. When she asks "where's the dog?" while you're there, have your wife reply, with a straight face, that you shot it the other day because it was whining too much.
4. When she looks at you to confirm, just look her in the eye and smile calmly as you reassemble the gun.

Problem solved.

Trust me Brian, I have given similar situations long consideration.
In her years with "Save The Children" and the "UN" (yeah, she worked for United Nations) she had some issues with the nasty places that she lived (Georgia in the former Soviet Union, Kosovo, Afghanistan, etc).
She also headed up the UN cleanup of Indonesia after the Tsunami in Bande Aceh four years ago.

She has a real fear of firearms.

Her husband is ex Aussie military too. That's where I got my mis-information about Australia's gun laws.

Heck, I'm making her sound like Princess Diana.
But she's just another bleeding heart Liberal, and Hell will freeze over before we ever see eye to eye.

Come to think of it, we ARE going to the shooting range on the day after Thanksgiving, and she IS coming on Saturday.
Mwahahahahahahahahaha.

I have to clean my guns SOME time.

I'm sure that she'll be tickled pink to find out we brought her 8 year old niece to the firing range.
My wife is fine with bringing our daughter. She wants to teach her to respect firearms at an early age, and 8 is the earliest the local firing range will allow. I checked.

I never understand the fear of firearms thing.

Drunk drivers kill more people each year than guns in the US, excluding suicides. In 2005, there were 16,885 alcohol-related fatalities in the US. During that same year, excluding suicides (which I feel are going to happen anyway), there were 13,692...including 330 killed by law enforcement and 789 accidents.

If we're so bent on making the world safer, why not put breathalyzers on all the cars??

Train them young. Not only will they understand how they work, they'll understand how to safe them and get out of a situation where a friend is doing something they shouldn't.

Precisely me reasoning for wanting to teach her about them.

Just wondering if I should set up a shooting range in my back yard for her to try her hand with my bb gun. Get used to trying to sight in a target.

The more structured your shooting sessions, the less likely she's going to treat it offhandly. If you only shoot in the backyard, the only thing I'd make sure (regardless of bb to .50) is that it becomes a RANGE and all safety rules and training applies. Once that starts kicking in, it becomes part of the shooting, not something you have to think about.

Other than that, if you've got the room, I don't see why not.

Haha. I mentioned to my wife this morning,
"You know, we're going to the shooting range on Friday. I'll have to clean the guns most of the day on Saturday."

She got this scared look on her face when she realized that's when her sister and brother-in-law are going to be here.
All she could say was "Please, not while they are here."

Well, I'm happy to report that my Compact Flash card is just fine.

I am sorry to say however that my internal flash drive reader is toast.

I had the problem again where it wouldn't read my chip. So I tried another chip from another camera.
Same story.
So I plugged in my old external card reader, and everything was just fine. All my photos were there.
