I've always been fascinated about history. There is something magical about how people lived in old times. How do they look like 5,000 years ago. What were their beliefs. What did they eat to survive 10,000 years ago. And so many other questions.

This is how I understand human history in this planet. Two major parts:

- History: It's the period after the first human civilization, The Sumerians. In current day Iraq.

- Pre-history: Anything before the The Sumerians.

- Pre-history goes back many millions years ago.

The Sumerian clay tablets ..the ones found tells a good picture.
Eventually, we will find the rest.
Long interest in mine also.
Fact or fiction; it's been said to be both...but Zecharia Sitchin's books are interesting.

My understanding is that prehistory covers the time before written history. Egyptian hieroglyphics and Babylonian cuneiform documents qualify as writing; cave paintings, probably not.

My understanding is that the Sumerians were the first to "write" or in actual terms; have the first written language. Hence...the "importance" of the Sumerian clay tablets.
Where they merely creating stories or were they writing history themselves?

Plus, the Sumerians mark the line between pre-history and history, as mentioned earlier.

If I were to guess I'd say they were writing about their present time. My theory is that they don't have a concept of "history". But that's just an uninformed guess.

Quiz time!

1) What is the name of the oldest city in the world (easy, I know )
2) What is the name of the oldest city that has been continually inhabited till today.
3) Bonus points if you know how old is each.

From Wiki: "Zecharia Sitchin was a Russian-American author of books proposing an explanation for human origins involving ancient astronauts."

I don't buy that idea, sorry Totally Fiction.

I read about that when I was 7 or 8 years old boy. Very fascinating. I used to read books upon books like corn flakes...when I was a little boy. Man, that was an exciting times. There was TV and radio, plus....our imagination.

Need clarification on this topic: The origin of the Phoenicians.

Always thought the Phoenicians were of European origin, specifically from south Italy. However, in one lecture I attended on Youtube, the lecturer said the Phoenicians are of a Semitic ancestry, e.g from the ME (Middle East).

Anybody can confirm or deny that assertion?

They didn't have the word "astronaut" in Sumerian time.
Better Quiz time:
What word WOULD the Sumerians use?
