One more.

Old fashion or old fashioned.

"Old fashion" is really an adman's corruption of "old-fashioned"; the usage is not fully respectable in English class. Note my inclusion of the hyphen to indicate that this is really an adjectival phrase, though it is often spelled without the hyphen these days. Old fashion is similar to describing people who are prejudice, at which the author of my college grammar text was outrage.

Of course, if you are describing a style of dress or grooming that was customary in the distant past or which is still current but has been in practice a long time, you might then be correct to refer to this style as an old fashion. However, when used in this way, "fashion" is clearly a noun and not part of an adjectival phrase.

Yeah. I don't know who is "adman", but "old-fashioned" sounds right to me.

Speaking of which, I think the Hyphen is really becoming an old-fashion. Sadly

I love the hyphen.

You guys shoiuld try living in Australia! The aim with many (most?) Aussies appears to be that of having a conversation without actually saying anything. Example : :G'day mate, how'ryou goin, orright?". "Yair, you?". "Orright; howzamissis?". "Good - yours?". "Good, seeyaSat'dy?"
"Bet! Seeyah".

Hyphenated word combinations are halfway between being one and two words. Then there are the hyphens between words in a phrase when they function as a single adjective except when a verb separates the noun from the adjective, when the hyphens are not used between the words. And then you can break a word between syllables at the end of a line, with a hyphen at the end of the first fragment, except when the first fragment looks too much like another word or is only one letter long or the trailing fragment is only one letter long or... or when there are individual exceptions to these rules. According to English grammar teachers, English is a living, changing language that can't be chained down by rules. But don't get me started on what they teach in English classes in this country these days!

I was in Australia once - spent about 7 weeks there. But I had to leave: Couldn't speak the language.
