Default Pre request - wedding stories

Ok, bavanor (Aaron) said we needed wedding stories. I agree, there is always something that goes wrong at a wedding. Since my dad is a pastor and has done lots of them, I probably have more stories than most of you, but I'll just share mine.

Our wedding was very short but very us. We had a bagpiper playing outside as guests showed up, and he played the recessional as well. It was November in Oregon, so COLD, but he didn't mind, said he had enough wool on he'd be fine. I designed my dress, cut it out, and then my mother's friend and my mother sewed it for me. I made my veil. I helped my mother and another of her friends do all the food...though they did most of it. My best friend wrote a song for us that was played as the brides' maids went down the aisle. My dad did the ceremony and I had 2 other men in the wedding that were father figures for me, one died shortly after from cancer. I think the ceremony took all of maybe 7 minutes. Because of one of Pete's old roommates (had, as I mentioned in the meeting your SO post, asked me to marry him 3 times even though I never dated him) we didn't include the "if anyone knows any reason these two shouldnt be married..." bit. He had tried to talk Pete out of marrying me because I had student loans still and he said Pete wouldn't be getting "a good deal". :

Anyway, things that went wrong. Right before the wedding, I was standing there while the seamstress was helping do up the back of my dress. I didn't realize she was standing on the skirt and I stepped forward to grab something and the skirt tore away from the bodice a bit. Thankfully...we had thread and a needle and got it back on easily enough.

The kicker was though, my husband hadn't been told that he needed to have the marriage cert. filed BEFORE the wedding. He just assumed that you went and got it, had everyone sign it, and then took it in. So, we got married, and then went to sign the cert and realized we weren't legally married. My husband now has 2 chances to remember (or forget...depends on if you are a glass half empty or full sort of person I suppose) our anniversary because I don't get mad at him unless he forgets both. We have the day we were married in the church, and then the legal date, 10 days later.

Ok, I said I wasn't going to post any pictures of me, but this one is almost 8 years old now and I don't mind posting it. I didn't take it obviously.

Ok, since I asked for it, here goes.

For our wedding my wife and I did all the inventations, flower arrangements and flower buying (flower mart in San Francisco is just great).

Our wedding was held on Muir beach, on a Monday. Storms all around the north bay, but as we pull into the Muir Beach area, nice and sunny. Things are looking good when I notice we forgot our toasting glasses. So, I sent my old roommate back to get them. OOpps, my suit is in his car, . I am starting to get a little nervous, hoping my old roommate remembers that the suit is in the car, and will try and get back here quickly. Meanwhile my wife (bride then) is all dressed and yelling at me to get dressed. Can't let her know I don't have my suit, no way, she would loose it.

Meanwhile everybody is showing up and being seated at the beach, I have my best man running interferance with the brides maid and my wife so she doesn't keep asking me why I am not dressed yet. Finally my old roommate shows up, after driving about 80-90 mph to get back, once he remember that the suit was in his car (he's a good driver don't worry). I get dressed as quickly as possible, have my dad (the real photographer in the family) take some pictures of me and my best man. Then off to the beach and the ceremony. The guests were assuaged by the little wait by the flutes as he played the soft sounds of Sate.

I had my best man, a fellow blacksmith, marry us. My wife and I had made up our own ceremony based off of some old cultural weddings dealing with blacksmiths (it was thought to be goodluck to have a blacksmith at your wedding (either to marry or just attend), Blacksmiths being able to bond metal together and all, they should be able to help bond a relationship as well)). Short and sweet, couple more pictures then off to the reception.

Great food, small wedding (30 people) made it perfect for conversation and revelry. Wouldn't change anything.

Really? I've always thought I looked a bit on the evil side! I was happy I guess...I honestly don't remember much. I hadn't slept in a couple days and all I ate that whole day was later at the reception, I had 2 grapes and an espresso.

Well that's good, thank you. I have disguised my shifty eyes well then. Ok, no not really but I do think that because my eyes are fairly deep set they end up looking dark which, especially when I end up with red eye makes me look like I may be contemplating something nasty to do to someone in spite of smiling at them.

I got married at the beginning of January. It was a really nice low key wedding.

There was one hitch though, during the ceremony I could see the Pastors book and i saw that I would have to do my speaking bit in a few seconds, I took in a deep breath and accidently inhaled a fair amount on saliva and began coughing badly.

I tried to hold my breath to stop coughing but apparently I started to turn purple, i started coughing again so badly that the pastor was worried that I was choking and tried to give me the heimlich maneouver, I tried to tell him i was ok but i couldn't because of the coughing.

After about 20 seconds my wife passed her flowers to her bridesmaid wound up and gave me a big, loud, slap on the back, clearing my lungs. After the chortling from the guests died down the ceremony continued and was really very wonderful.

Oh, that is just very funny! *I can totally see that happening to someone. *Very good story, thanks for sharing.

We were afraid I was going to be coughing through the whole ceremony. *I'd had bronchitis verging on pneumonia for several weeks. *The doctors had been throwing all sorts of drugs at me trying to make my cough go away. *When I cough, I sound like a sea lion that has been a chain smoker for most of its life getting stepped on by an elephant. * *I couldn't get the cough to go away. *It was nice though, it seemed almost as if moments before the wedding started my cough stopped. *I don't remember it coming back while we were on the honeymoon either, but I didn't cough once the whole wedding or reception that I can remember.
