I agree 100% with George. When budgets need to be cut, the first one on the block? Education. Sacrificing the future of this country for the present. Education should be the last thing that gets the ax, instead its usually the first.

From another viewpoint (not mine!) education is the first item that should be cut. Students in k-12 can't vote. Therefore, why waste money on them? The dumber they are, the harder they fall for propaganda and entertaining political pundits.

Folks, America is still a democracy. So was Germany in the early 1930s, but the electorate failed to wisely exercise their power. Hitler was able to take over. Even our high school graduates sometimes know a smattering of the consequences.

In America we can study the candidates from the lowest to the presidency. We can get involved in the campaigns of the better ones. We can vote them in or out. While they are in office, we can communicate to them our opinions. Until they take away our vote, they have to pay some attention to us. If we fail to fight for our rights, we gradually lose them. When this happens, remember the words of a great American philosopher, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
