Very cool story. Literally

You owe it to us to show us this watch. (1) By itself (2) You wearing it (you don't have to show yourself if you don't want to). (3) You don't need a macro lens for that. A mid-range lens will do just fine.

Congrats, mate.

Sounds good... I'll give all that a go when I get some time. Too many damn Christmas parties (6 and counting), and now new years to add on to it.

Not sure how I would show the wearing it though, I hook in on a belt look and drop it in my pocket. I'll think of something....

It still thinks it's Christmas. New batteries won't help. I even bought a new expensive leather wrist band for it a few months ago to cheer it up, but there's no cure for old age, I guess.
It stops working more and more often, but no scratch on the glass after almost 20 years!
Sorry to hear your old companion is no longer working.

I guess you can retire the old friend, and pick out a new one to continue the journey.

I dropped it in the yard one year doing fall clean-up and didn't realize it. My son found it when he was doing some spring clean-up about 7 months later - we get cold and snow in Alberta. It was still ticking just fine. The strap broke a few years ago and I sent it back to Seiko - they stiffed me $100 for a different strap that didn't match the watch. For $35 I got a new strap from a mall vendor that looks 100 times better than the strap that Seiko provided.
I have to agree with Al when he said the following:

Actually, now that I think of it, I could probably pair a white/cream-dialed Hamilton Thin-O-Matic with a fedora, trench coat, and 4x5" Graflex camera.

Congrats in advance, my friend.
Thanks, but not a G-Shock. At least, not this time.

Grabbed another JDM Seiko; figured I might as well have something that very few folks around me know or care about.

Obviously, pics to come after it actually arrives. I grabbed something a little more dressy (no numerals, no lume), though it's still kind of weird and offbeat to stay more youthful or whatever while still being more "jewelry-like" than something you'd wear every day. I probably over-thought that explanation; I bought it because I wanted it.

This one will be the last watch for a little while; I'll probably pick up a light-dialed Hamilton Thin-O-Matic at some point to occupy the in, probably when they go on sale (read somewhere else online of some guy snagging one for like $450 new from a grey market dealer due to a holiday sale), and one of the smaller 5000-series G-shocks. I'm definitely going to take my time with the G-shock so I can get an unusual color or something.

After that, I can save up for something real expensive and refined, or whatever we like to say about expensive watches these days. I'm sure I'll fall in lust with some expensive Swiss watch (or a Grand Seiko) when I have the money for it years down the line.

It's well worn but worn well, Swiss Army bought 27 years ago.
It still keeps precision time.

Update on that AP purchase. Didn't buy it for two reasons:

- Bought shares in a bank instead
- The above bank announced a capital increase, which I have to pay for (I already have shares in that bank).

Hopefully the dividend from that bank will be enough to buy that watch

Definitely does. A watch is a watch. A time piece.

It came, and it's pretty cool. Not a tool/diver-type watch and no lume, so it dresses up nicely while avoiding the "old man watch look". I'll try to find time to take a picture of it in the sun this week.

I got the Seiko model SARB065. Supposedly, it was designed with input from a famous bartender in Japan, and is nicknamed the "Cocktail Time", for what time it is when you'd be wearing the thing.

Some pics from other places:

Seiko Cocktail Time – SARB065 | Yeoman's Watch Review

SeiyaJapan | Grand Seiko | G-Shock | Seiko Spirit | Prospex | Marinemaster | Citizen | SEIKO Mechanical SARB065 Cocktail Time

Seiko SARB071 vs SARB065. Help me decide?

Now I just need to get some big honking obnoxious watch to complete the trio (but hopefully not one of those brands that end in -sel, -sil or -cta, if you know what I mean... no offense to actual owners of those watches, but they don't do it for me). I'm thinking the massive Orient 300m saturation diver, maybe with the new white dial (but the new hands are kind of cheap-looking).

I also think I have one of these in my future, but not any time soon:

Man, how old are you, Michael? No offense (ok, you can take offense, if you wish to), but all those you mentioned look horrible. I bet even your dad will object to them.

Sorry, mate.
