Our canadian neighbors have a few good ideas, like folks anywhere else. Just remember, there are more folks in California alone than all of Canada.

Looking at all of the candidates so far I am really worried. Are these the best we can come up with? As a long time independent I keep hoping someone with some real sense will step forward. Of course if they have any real sense they probably just keep quiet.

That's what I was saying. Too bad all the candidates are just egotistical, power-hungry politicians trying to pass themselves off as caring people looking out for us. Yea, right.

When has that ever been different?

Someone asked me a similar question the other day. My response: The people who are QUALIFIED to run the country the way we want it managed are too damn smart to get into politics. They're enjoying relative autonomy and power with great pay and none of the BS associated with government. We call them CEOs.

Esquire backs Obama in its first endorsement

WASHINGTON (AP) — Esquire is backing Democrat Barack Obama for president — its first endorsement in the magazine's 75-year history.
The Illinois senator is "the only possible choice to lead the country," editors wrote in the November issue, on newsstands Oct. 14. They also encouraged people to vote for Obama because the next president will influence the direction of the Supreme Court.
"The best argument for the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States is written quite clearly in the peaks and squiggles of John Paul Stevens' EKG," they wrote of the 88-year-old justice.
Republican presidential nominee John McCain has run a "cheap and dishonorable campaign," they said. And his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is "stunningly unqualified."
The editors wrote that McCain has not offered evidence of how things for Americans would change if he were to succeed President Bush.
"Bushism must be ripped out, root and branch, everywhere it has been established, or else the presidential election of 2008 is a worthless exercise in futility," the editors said.

There is no evidence at all that anything will change under a President John McCain, who has already identified Roberts and Alito as his beau ideals of Supreme Court justices. He has made brave noises about torture and the extraconstitutional prerogatives of the executive, but President Bush and his men went on and did what they wanted anyway, and McCain walked away, begging for votes from fundamentalists who hate him, meeping his displeasure in ways that were barely audible. The virus will gestate and spread on his watch, all throughout the federal government. Bushism must be ripped out, root and branch, everywhere it has been established, or else the presidential election of 2008 is a worthless exercise in futility. Barack Obama may not be the man to do it, but John McCain, for all his laudable qualities, clearly is neither willing nor able to do so.
To continue to govern ourselves this way is unthinkable. It is unsustainable as a democracy to continue to mock so egregiously in secret what we continue to profess in public. That is the task for the next president. That is the main reason to vote for Barack Obama of Illinois. We strongly encourage you to do so.

I don't understand why people feel the need to expound on their political views in a forum never intended to debate the topic. Do you think you're going to change someones fundamental stance and political parties because your snarky reply is so masterfully crafted?

The answer is No.

The only thing you're doing is inciting others to post their differing opinions, feelings get hurt, animosity grows between people and suddenly, a photo forum is the birthplace of grudges.

I know I'm new to this forum [but a long-time user of various other forums] so my words might not count as much as someone else who has a long history here, but I think this thread is OT and if I were a moderator, I'd lock or delete this thread. It has about as much relevance as comparing the best diaper rash cream.

From what I've seen so far at Photocamel the level of moderation is pretty good. If action is needed it is generally taken. Moderation should not be censorship.

Forgive me if I wasn't clear. I agree that the placement of this topic is appropriate (OT), but I was speaking to blumesan's point that religion and political discussions should not have a place on a photography board. No good can come of it; it's how and why wars start.

Thanks for obliging me and please allow me to state that I have respect for everyone here and am not disagreeing with anyone's views, simply stating my thoughts as to the appropriateness of the above mentioned topics.
