Default E-500 / 285hv Trigger Voltage

Does anyone know if the Vivitar 285HV shoe mount flash can be operated safely on the Olympus E-Volt 500?

The trigger voltage on the 285HV is 5.5v. Originally I ordered the 285HV for use on my E20N.

Thank you.
