Default This Board Is A Busy Place, But.....

......The Nikon thread is a bit slow. In the world of photography, a busy message board has a slow Nikon community?

Not throwing stones, just wondering out loud. I would not be caught dead with any other camera strap than Nikon. Sure I have played around with Kodak (SLR-n) & a couple of Fuji's, but the Nikon logo is where I feel the most comfortable.

Hi Gary there just a few posters here who try to keep this section alive , myself included.

i do not have that nikon only fetish other brands have good gear but i can imagine that there are places you would not like to be found dead with the wrong gear (e.g in the Nikon store in Japan with a Sony or Canon camera and strap )

Probably because most people here are shooting instead of worrying about what their straps say. We don't really care.

My camera strap has no logo on it, I made it myself, I wouldn't be caught dead with a NIKON logo camera strap even though one was included with the Nikon camera body I have. It's not the logo or even the manufacturer of the gear that makes for good photographs but the person using said equipment.

Then you're a snob. And not a very bright one at that. For 2 reasons: 1) big logos are advertising, and if Nikon (or anyone) wants me to flaunt their logo around they should bloody well pay me for it (but they don't!), and 2) big logos are advertising to robbers and thieves, screaming: "I'm valuable! Nick me!". I.o.w. you're asking for trouble! Not very wise, a.k.a. stupid.

If you're sensible you had better keep your gear as much out of sight as possible! E.g. use UNmarked straps and bags (you can blacken logos with an indelible felt marker), and, in inner cities, carry your gear in something unrecognizable as a camera bag, like a used supermarket chain bag, etc.
Unless you like to be hit over the head in an alleyway, of course.

OR, maybe like the other few million Nikon owners out there, we're just so G-Damn proud we own the best we're willing to pimp the shyt out of our intelligence?

if that makes me a snob...it beats the shyt out of what your rant seems to IMO make you out to be..but maybe i'm just stoopid too so disregard my "intended" asshole comment
oh, and about that piss in your cornflakes? it's better to just start over with a fresh bowl

Wow! Is there some pent up anger in here or what?

I could be wrong, but I think the OP mentioned the strap just as a reference to people who shoot Nikon. Not just the ones who use the actual strap itself.

And whether someone wants to be a walking advertisment for Nikon (or any brand for that matter) or not, there is no need for name calling. Serioulsly, are we back in 2nd grade?

I think the reason the Nikon board here is a bit slower than other sites with similar member numbers has to do with where images are posted.

Here, the busiest forums are the image posting forums, where images from all cameras are posted.

Some other boards post images into the brand specific forums and that accounts for some of the difference.

Maybe the Nikon shooters are busier actually making fine images and using their equipment rather than yacking about it.

I thought this section was actually fairly active lately. Lots of good questions and such. But beyond questions, and discussing announcements, there isnt much else to discuss in a specific forum. As mentioned, most will post their results in photo specific forums. I will sometimes post images here when its in regards to camera specific stuff. Or barring that, post a link to a thread I started in another section here.

As for the strap, I have the Nikon one mine came with. I figure if a potential thief sees me carrying a camera around my neck, unless he/she is going by a grocery list of things to steal and looking for something specific, it wont matter what the neck stap says. They are going to try and steal it, if thats their goal. Id like a different one. Not because I dislike having one that says Nikon, but wouldnt mind one with a bit of style. Ive just never seen one I liked.

I replaced my Nikon strap with a Nikon 90th Anniversary strap.
Sad huh? It has "Nikon" stitched on both ends of the strap, and "90th Anniversay" stitched on the middle of the strap, along with yellow stripes running along either edge.
It's loud and proud... I know, I know... I love my strap!!!
If I were to be shooting in a problem area, I'd tone it down a bit.
But I generally don't put myself in harms way...

Hi all,

I wonder why I should give free advertising to Nikon - or anyone else for that matter?

Besides this, I feel the straps which came with my Nikon's were all rather crappy and poor quality, taking in account how much one forks out for the camera.

I love the quick release strap from Domke, it is beautiful soft and non-slip, plain with no logos on and as the name said - if I want to take it off - it goes in a jiffy.

I feel too many people put an awful lot of weight to the best and latest equipment. Try and be satisfied with what you got and make the best out of it.

Compare photography with any other form of discipline -
It's not the pot which makes the meal - but the chef!
It's not the typewriter writing the book but the author! Do I have to say more?

Cheers Moxi1
