Default Recommendations on GPS unit for Nikon bodies

I am looking into buying a GPS unit for my various Nikon bodies. Anyone have experience with Nikon's GP-1 GPS Adapter? It's getting mixed reviews at the vendor's (Adorama) site.

Jeff

Jeff as far as i konw it only works with newer models , some how you have to connect the GPS unit with a cable to the camera. When i was in Brugges belgium on the photoshoot some used the same gps and they are happy with it .

i do not need gps yet my brain is not that fuzzy that i do not recal where i shot the images..

i do not now if adorama has a return policy if within a reasonable nr of days you are not happy and could return it ..

Thanks for the response, Dirk. Apparently from the lack of other responses, geo-tagging is not used by members of this forum.

In my case, I have never (until now) had much use for it, although there were some locations on a desert trip that it would have come in handy. Visiting dozens of sites during the course of a day with 2000 images, and even a not-so-fuzzy brain has difficulty determining where one location leaves off and another one starts.

Now, I find myself with a work assignment that would sincerely benefit from geo-locating each image, and while I generally like Nikon's products, I have read a few unkind reviews about the GP-1.

We'll see what becomes of it. I may just use a map and voice recorder and do it the old fashioned way.

Thanks again.

that is certainly cheaper .. perhaps a tip;
if you drive into a location where you want or need to shoot , photograph the signs on the road with the roadnumber / name of the place and if you shoot from your car take a look at a your navigation device it has also built in gps..

I bought and use the Promote GPS. To me it is simpler and easier to use than the GPS from Nikon. I have heard from a few people I know that the Nikon GP-1 is not as accurate as is should be and the stability of some of the third party GPS units for Nikon are much better.

I think their website is Promote.com, but I bought mine via Amazon.

Hi there,

I am just in the progress of purchasing a GPS unit. I would not recommend the Nikon Gp1, it is not sensitive enough. I will get the Garmin eTrex Legend.

I have a Nikon D 200 and they are compatable with
Garmin eTrex series and Magellan SporTrack series

but you need to purchase the Nikon MC-35 GPS adapter cord in Australia this costs 225 Dollars. ( for me toooo expensive, so I take notes instead)

Cheers Moxi1
