Default Sigma lens/sensor question

I'm thinking about buying the Sigma 18-125mm 3.8 DC lens. But as I was checking into it I noticed things were said about the sensor size requirements. I have a D200 and D300, which have a sensor size of 23.6x15.8mm. Apparently the largest size that should (can) be used with this lens is the APS-C sensor, which is 22.5x15mm. Do you think this small difference will be a problem? I see different sizes for thiese sensors, so I'm confused.

From your graphic it appears that both the larger Nikon, et al, sensor and the Canon sensor are both considered APS-C, each with a slightly different crop factor. Because Sigma makes mount-specific versions of their lenses for Nikon, Canon, etc., there should be no worry.

Even though there is that little bit of difference (22.5x15) and 23.6x15.8? I know that's a really small amount, but it did make me wonder. And from this out of Wikipedia APS-C - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , apparently it's not a problem, but it seems strange that there is the difference. I just didn't want to buy the lens and then see vignetting.

I don't own that particular Sigma lens, but even some Nikon lenses are subject to light fall-off in the corners under certain conditions. Do a Google such for reviews of that Sigma lens and perhaps you will get an unbiased review of it.

Well if it is set up for a Nikon APS-C sensor then it is a DX lens and, optimized for the sensor. As far as I know only Canon makes the smaller one that is the 1.6X sensor. Sigma manufactures for the 1.5Xs, which is the most common or widely made.

well let me see here. the difference in the aps-c sensors are sigma is a 1.7 crop, canon is a 1.6 crop, and nikon and the others are a 1.5 crop. please notice that these 3 crops are different sized sensors, aka the bigger the crop, the smaller the sensor. as noted in the chart.

sigma lists the stats for their lesnes as the sigma mount, thus the smaller sensor size. the canon and nikon version are made to work their larger sensors. thus there is no issue. how do i know, i have the original sigma 18-125dc and other sigma lenses. my fuji uses nikon lesnes and i have not had any issues even with a polarizer filter.

Thanks for all the info and insight. Apparently I'm ok then. I'm going to leave some hints for Santa.....in case he (she) passes by a camera store.
