I am still waiting myself. I ordered the kit and it has been about a month now. I'm about ready to give up. All the reviews I have read say it is an amazing lens, for what it is ,an 11X zoom.* I am sure that the purist will tear it apart because of its lack of speed and not being as sharp as the pro lenses . For my money it sounds like an excellent lens. Later I am sure I will buy a faster zoom such as the 17-55 2.8 but for my first Nikon lens purchase this looks like a good one. Bob

I have ordered one , two weeks ago , but they are hard to get hold of unless you are prepared to pay more . The NZ price is $1349 but for NZ$ $1580 you can buy one online from a supplier on the south island on www.trademe.co.nz . He admits that it is more expensive but states that they are not available for less unless you are prepared to wait which is true .

I think there's a lot of hype surrounding this lens right now. It looks like a great option for the vacation traveler, but I'm always wary of lenses beyond a 3-4X range.

I remember how everyone scrambled to get the 24-120 VR and after a few months when stock was plentiful, folks began to realize the problems and limitations and other issues creeped up.

I'd wait a bit, but more so, the question in my mind would be, "Would I have purchased the 28-200 that was previously available and would I have been happy with it image quality wise?"

If the answer is "Yes", then chances are you'll be happy with the 18-200.... if the answer is "No", then chances are you'll be one of the folks that ebay's this lens about 6-10 months after you buy it.

After discussions about large range lenses I will probably tell them to forget about my order as well and get some f2.8 lenses , 24-60 and 80-200

Although, by most accounts, this is the best of the bunch among the various 18-200 lenses. I am quite sure that it is not as good as the best Nikon lenses like the 17-55 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8, but those lenses are also much bulkier and much more expensive, as well as being much faster, much more ruggedly built and optically superior. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

My decision does not get affected by size and weight of a lens , if it gives superior images only nerds need to worry about the weight . Image quality is everything in this game [ to me ]
