Unhappy D700 zoom function

Hi everyone

After taking a shoot i zoom the pic in order the sharpness , for some reason if i do the maximum zoom it always looks not sharp enough , does anyone knows what is the maximum zoom (100% or 200% or what ever).

Thanks

Amit.

Are you talking about looking at the picture on the back LCD and zooming totally to max

On my D300 they look lousy. So never trust it for the quality of the final picture.

Maximum zoom seems to be about 300% to me. The third last stage is 1:1, then 2:1 and finally 3:1.

What I want to know is... Why is it soft during preview, but when you zoom in one click it's super-sharp?

Red face Re: D700 zoom function

I'm set the preview function off in order to save battery life. but as for your answer (300%) it sounds reasonable.

Thanks.

lol I noticed this too (on a D300 but I guess this part is the same feature-wise).

on the d300 at least there's a way to set the middle button to auto-zoom when previewing. if you set it to medium, and press it, you'll see 100%, and it zooms to the focus spot wherever you focused. it's a pretty useful trick i picked up recently.

Also, if interested, on the D300 there is a little know setting that if set, allows you to push the toggle button in and the histogram overlays the 100% review image on the LCD. Qucik way to check lighting.
