I am hoping for a 16-200 F/2.8 but would settle on a 16-100 F2.8 (no more variable F)

That's not going to happen. I wouldn't mind seeing a re-release and updated 35-70 2.8 or even a fast tele like Sony's Zeis 135mm f 1.8 (drool)

What's so wrong with the current 70-200? A new 85mm 1.4 would be nice but the 1.8 is pretty nice. How about something in the mid-wide through mid-tele. I like the 28-70 but I don't know how decent the replacement 24-70 is. I'd like a 24-105 2.8 just for the slight overlap.

I have a 98% confidence level that a new 70-200 f/2.8 will be announced with this new body.

Hope so. Then I can pick up a used VR1 model or a new VR1 for cheap (relativly speaking)

It was created more for the DX format, 'terrible' wide-open on FX, three D3-Nikonians I know have bought Sigma 70-200F2.8's as an 'in between' solution, only use the 70-200F2.8VR on their DX format machines.

I wouldn't go that far to buy another lens. I'm not that disappointed with the Nikon on an FX body to do that but I do turn on vignette control. Now, during events I rarely shoot wide open... I'm usually stopped down to at least f/3.2 or f/3.5 with it. The extra flexibility of the D3's high ISO capability allows me to get there and keep a high enough shutter speed.

Quite true. Given I rarely shoot wide open with this lens, vignetting isn't much of a concern on the D3. When it does happen, it is also quite easily correctable.
