Default Price of Nikon D50

I clicked one of the ads on this site, and I was taken to a page where the Nikon D50 was selling for $399. Is this a price to be trusted?

Here it is:

http://www.bestpricecameras.com/prod...227514&start=1

Has anyone purchased from "bestpricecamera"?

Prices for these cameras are typically controlled.

Any places that are Nikon authorized distributors or dealers have to sell them for certain prices on a retail basis.

Places that advertise rediculously low prices are typically breaking up the boxes and will pull all kinds of scams.* You won't get the battery, the charger, the box, the manual, the whatever... or they'll tell you that you must purchase an extended warranty that drives the price to market points or you'll probably find the camera suddenly out of stock or you'll never receive it.

Stick to reputable dealers and those that are authorized Nikon dealers. That should be the first question you should ask any retailer you purchase Nikon gear from.

More precisely, that should be the first question you should ask an independent third party about any retailer you puchase Nikon gear from. A retailer that is predisposed to lie will have a reason to answer yes even if it isn't true. I would check out the reputation of any retailer before even setting foot in the store or clicking on the site link.

Lauriet,

This "bestpricecamera" outfit is definitely one to avoid like the plague, a really flaky operation. Last September I ordered a D50 online from them (their website said it was in stock for immediate delivery). The next day a very pushy, fast-talking high-pressure salesman phoned me to "confirm" my order and try and talk me into an expensive (about $150) warranty. Then he said they would be able to ship the lens "in about three weeks." Needless to say, all kinds of alarm bells went off in my head and I told him to cancel the order.

That same day I ordered the camera from B&H. Since then I have bought three Nikon lenses, an Epson Stylus R800 and a number of smaller items from B&H, and I can attest to their outstanding service.

That's putting it mildly. This store's rating is about as low as they come.

PhotoCamel will no longer be entertaining ads from BestPriceCameras.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Just to be clear: we don't control the ads that google streams to us initially. We can, however, block ads from dealers with questionable reputations once we know we're getting them. We can also set up a list of blocked advertisers.

bestpricecamera has been the subject of many thread in many a forum. It's unfortunate that so many of these charletons exist.

I bought two D50 bodies for my kids at $529 each last fall and was a very good price then. I suppose that they might be a bit cheaper now.
