Default Sigma 70-300 APO Macro Super II Alternatives?

OK, even though I can't afford a new lens the lust is starting to grow in me and I feel that my crummy 70-300 will need ot be replaced in the future. At 300mm I find it too soft for my liking, almost hardly not worth using really. What are some good used buys that will cover a similar range?

I am looking around at 80-200 Nikkors or the Sigma 70-200, any good?

I doubt I will be able to buy anythign just yet (just booked a holiday to Barbados!) but I would like to get some ideas of what sort of monies I need to save.

Cheers

Alex

Default Re: Sigma 70-300 APO Macro Super II Alternatives?

lenses to look for are the sigma 100-300 f4, reputed to be good over entire range. the sigma 70-200 and nikon 80-200 will cost about the same new vs used. they are about even in performance.
