Teleconverters - PhotoCamel

Greetings from Australia,

My first posting. Have recently purchased a Nikon 70-300 AF ED Lens for my D70.Also purchased a Teleconverter and was recommmended the TC 14E11. However, the brochure for the 70-300 advise using the TC 14A. Any comments would be appreciated.

To Uncle Frank. Have admired your photographs. If your ever down this way I could do with some tuition.

The 14e and 14e II will not fit your lens without being modified. They were made to be used with AF-S VR lenses and the mount on the converter will not fit a non-VR non-AF-S lens.

The 14a is a manual focus converter I believe and will not support autofocus. If you want AF the best current choice is the Kenko Pro 300 1.4 (the Tamron SP 1.4 is the same TC, shop price) which will AF at f5.6 and work fairly well with slower lenses in good light. It's a good converter but its not quite in the class of a 14a.
