Default Fisheye Lens Choice?

I am considering asking Santa (actually Mrs. Clause) for a fisheye lens this Christmas, and do not want to break her bank account needlessly by asking for a $765 Nikon 16mm f/2.8 when there is an option with the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 at $570. The lens will be used on a D3.

Has anyone had any experience with either lens that they would like to share? This will be a "fun" lens for creative photography, so keeping in mind the intended use, I am not looking to "waste" money.

One thing I like about the Sigma (in addition tothe cost savings) is the minimum focusing distance at 6" gives aabout a 1:3.5 magnifcation compared tothe Nikon's 10" MFD and a 1:10 maginifcation, the former being much more conducive to closeup orchid/flower photography "with a fisheye twist".

Thanks,

Jeff

Default Re: Fisheye Lens Choice?

I have had the 16mm for many years. i used it on my F3. Now i am beginning to use it on my D300. it is a fun lens and very sharp. I even put it on my Leica M8 and play with it. If you have a D3, don't compromise on lenses. Every time I have, I wind up buying the better one too and that certainly is not economical!
