Sigma - Lenses
It looks good and I love the 17-70 range and also the fact that it starts at F2.8 and goes up from that point. Well it is not a 2.8 full range but I have not seen any 17-70 with that feature yet. I have also been looking at the 18-50 F2.8, which is about 1/2 cost of Nikon Glass. Sigma - Lenses __________________

I have the older non macro 18-50m f2.8 sigma and love it. It is soft at f2.8 but sharper by f5.6 and on. The only downside is that the 'grip' to zoom in and out is made of a rubber compound and is peeling in a few areas(construction quality isn't good). Other than that, it has been a pretty good lens. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the EX series lens.
Fact is, Sigma EX/HSM lenses are almost all I shoot with, the only exceptions being a couple of exotic Nikkors. |

I have the sigma 18-50 f2.8 hsm lens. it is a nice sharp lens. i do thing the tamron 17-50 f2.8 is slightly better. I went with the sigma due to hsm, at the time the tamron had no motor.
the 17-70 2.8-4 is a step up from the nikon kit lens, i have seen a lot of shots from it, pretty decent. i do not own it, but know someone that does. the price different from the 2.8 glass from the 2.8-4 is not that much and i would advise to go straight for the 2.8 if you do not need the reach. __________________
