Default Flash for Nikon D80??

Hi all, was wondering what flash would everyone suggest for a nikon D80, and if possible one that would also fit my D60?

Does the Speedlight SB-600 do this?

I have the SB-600, well really 3 of them. And a D80. They work fine together. But if I was going to get just one speedlight I'd think I would get the SB-800. As if offers a few options the SB-600 doesn't. One being the ability to fire off camera with a PC cord. You get a 20 buck hot shoe/PC adapter and a PC cord and you running off camera. The wireless is less than 100% reliable. Especially once you get near the fringes of its zone.

Best,

Roger

The SB600 is great. Its big brother the sb800 has more features, but is a bigger/heavier flash. And the little brother the SB400 is suppose to be decent. But a real small step up from the built in flash.

A site suggested to me, that has really helped is KenRockwell.com

The SB-600 is a fine flash to start out with. The SB-800 and SB-900 have more features, given their prices, but if money's an issue and you're not much of a flasher (or at least, not yet) just go with the SB-600.

Eastley's D80 doesn't have a PC sync port, nor does his/her D60, so eastley would need a hot-shoe-to-PC adapter just to use a PC sync cord anyways.

Actually, it's not really worth the trouble as the light source is hardly raised at all with the SB-400. Yes, it lets you bounce some, but you should really just get an SB-600 for more flexibility.

SB 600 is a great choice with your D80. The D80 also has a commander mode works with the SB-600

While the SB 600 is a fine flash, go ahead and get the SB 800.... you won't regret it. Cheers, Bill P.

SB800 should be dropping in price soon now that the SB900 is out.
I use the SB800 all the time and love it. And with the extra 5th battery and NiMH 2500mAh batteries it cycles about 2 secs faster then with only 4 batteries. Hence I use 5 all the time.

Don't forget, the SB400 will not work in wireless mode.

Cheers
