Hello,
I've been looking everywhere for such a lens and I can't find one (for Nikon DSLRs). Am I missing it? Loa __________________

Thanks.
Am I the only one that find it strange that it doesn't? In my opinion few people really a wide aperture 70-300 (as most people are satisfied with the cheaper, run-of-the-mill 70-300), few people are willing to pay for a 300mm f/2.8 prime, and less and less people are willing to pay for a VR-less 300mm lens. Anyway, here's hoping that Nikon or Sigma puches out such a lens... Loa |

Nikon probably hurt sales of its 300 f/4 AF-S by including that god-awful tripod collar with it, basically preventing vibration-free shots in a certain danger zone of shutter speeds unless one modified/replaced the collar. The Japanese engineering maxim of "just make it good enough" really has taken hold with recent Nikon tripod collars and feet. Theoretically, Nikon should go ahead and just add VR to the 300 f/4 AF-S, and redo the tripod collar again (there were two versions of the collar, one marginally better, though essentially the same). Sigma used to make a 300 f/4 APO, but it didn't have OS. |

The foot of the 300 f/2.8 VR isn't great either. So forget the theory of "more expensive lens...better collar and foot". My 300 f/2.8 VR "sags" when it's on the Wimberley Sidekick. It's slight but the movement is enough to frustrate at times.

The 400 f/2.8 AF-S foot sucked, and got worse with the AF-S II. The VR version's kept the status quo... At least you get two different feet (one big, one small) with the 400 f/2.8, though my used copy only came with the small foot, and a Really Right Stuff LCF-13, which I promptly installed Quote:
