Default I think I made a mistake, Canon 400D instead of Nikon D60.

Hey all.

I got this bad feeling that I should of brought the Canon 400D/40D instead of the Nikon D60 I got, I hate it when this happens, I rushed in to the buy without reading up on the camera's.

Why do you feel it was a mistake? Both are fine cameras, right?

Over reading I guess, I read reviews and the canon is rated sometimes way better.

A local professional came in to work and said there is only one website he ever listens too.

That is Steve's Digicams - Main Menu

He has travelled to other locations around the world, alot in the USA, also does a lot of sporting stuff down here. He uses a canon, but he said that website will give you a reivwe that is unbiased and the truth. On that site they like the D60, they seem to praise it a little more than the canon, but on cnet, trustedreviews and a few others they rate the canon better.

Folks are going to review cameras based on their own preferences. It doesn't matter what site it is. Let's face it. Everyone that is going to review a camera is going to be using something. Therefore, they will have a preference whether it be layout, features, ergonomics, etc.

The camera you bought is going to be just fine. You'll need to learn it's features and become familiar with it. Don't worry so much about which brand is best and worry about how to get the most out of the camera you purchased.

Nikon/Canon

Kodak/Fuji

Ford/Chevy

Bud/Miller

McDonalds/Burger King

Mac/Windows

They all do the job you got them for. The only difference is the one you perceive. I honestly never look at Canon. Nothing against them, its just what my father used, so its what I started with and I am happy with. If I ever had a favorite brand that let me down, then I would consider the other side. Till then I stick with what I know.

I don't have a Nikon and never have. I had a couple Canons before and one of them was a DSLR. I don't have it anymore because it wasn't what I needed, with I being the operative word.

I currently have a DSLR that gets really good reviews, but others get better ones in some categories, and overall too. But I don't see the same results. I don't "weigh" the differences the same.

If CNET or Steve or DPR, etc say the camera is heavy, should it be heavy for me too? It isn't. If they say the dynamic range is lacking, is it for me? because it isn't. If they say the camera isn't as fast, does it mater to me, really? Because mine does 5 frames per second and I'm not missing a moment because my camera may grab auto-focus 5 milliseconds after another one. What if my reaction to get the camera to the eye and half-press the shutter button was 10 milliseconds faster than the dude with the faster camera? I'm still winning.

Read the manual yourself. Play with the camera yourself. Take your own pictures. Look at them on your computer or via your local lab.

Usually when there's so much debate about which is best, cameras or anything else, it usually means that they're both great...

Enjoy it!

Wow! I am impressed with our behavior. Maybe it's because the concern is real and not just banter about Canon / Nikon. The takes are right. Both are very fine cameras made by top-notch companies. Go take pretty pictures and enjoy yourself. Pay no attention to statistics, we all know that 87.9% of them are made up on the spot anyway.

When I make a big purchase, I do lots of research before, and then when I decide, I stop looking. You have a fine camera that is capable of awesome results when used correctly.

You might want to join the forums on the Nikon Cafe, there are thousands of users there all shooting Nikon. Not that the camel is bad, but if you want to talk to more Nikon folks, that's the place.

Default Re: I think I made a mistake, Canon 400D instead of Nikon D60.

well, i have a friend that has a canon 400D, and not only he's pleased with the camera, but he takes very beautiful images.
I was pissed off when i had the fuji s5700 because i didn't have a d-slr and all, but i managed to take some pretty nice pictures with it.
As my friend with the canon 400D say, it's not important what camera do you have. Don't dream for a top camera, but try to make the best of the one you have.
As for the reviews...hm, i never trust them. Not even those with sample images (i've seen reviews with sample images contradicting each other).
You got it, now use it! :P
