Default VR lenses on non-Nikon bodies

This may be a stupid question, but does the Vibration Reduction feature work when a lens is mounted to a non-Nikon body? My guess is that it would but I have no way of making a firsthand check on that.

My first guess would be no. There would be no circuitry to tell the thing to work. But then again, it may get circuitry to work, but none to stop it from staying on all the time.

I assume that you'd need a fany adapter to make all of it work, including AF and such.

What is a "fany adapter"? I should have also have mentioned that I was thinking of non-Nikon bodies that accept Nikon AF lenses, such as the Fuji S2 and S3 Pro and the Kodak SLR-n.

From B&H Photo:

Quote:
Note: VR feature will only work with Nikon's F6, F5, F100, N80, N75, N65, D100 & D1 and D2-series (or any newer model) cameras.
This is also found in the manuals included with VR lenses.* I'd guess that the lenses would at least AF with the latest Fuji bodies as Thom Hogan's Review of the S3 opens with a photo of the S3 with a 24-120mm VR on it. Not sure about the VR though.

I think Mr. Pickles meant "fancy" instead of "fany", but only he knows for sure. =)

I got an answer to this question in the affirmative from dpreview. Changing lenses while the camera is still powered up can cause functional issues, but I don't know of anyone who deliberately "hot switches" lenses anyway.
