Default D80 firmware update

to 1.10

http://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/c...a=&p_topview=1

However... it's not yet posted in the Nikon USA web site. It's only posted in Europe.

Don't know if there's any issue or not so review and install at your own peril.

Julio

Default Re: D80 firmware update

There was a page on the Nikon USA website for it dated "January 30th, 2008" when I Googled the firmware update the other day.

It wouldn't let me download it, but the 30th is only three days away...

There always seem to be little code and bug fixes that aren't listed and that aren't always readily apparent, but there's never been any real reason not to upgrade a camera's firmware.

The download is available as of last Thursday in both US and EU cameras and for Windows and Mac. I have installed this in both of my D80 bodies and it works well. You need to insure that your D80 has Firmware version 1.01 and then upgrade this to Firmware version 1.10.

From the Nikon website:
Modifications enabled with upgrade of A and B firmware from Ver. 1.01 to Ver. 1.10
  • The product will be "Certified for Windows Vista". Support for the new USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) has been added. The PTP option in the setup menu will be modified to MTP/PTP. The icon will also be modified.
  • The effects of noise reduction processing performed at shutter speeds of 1 - 8s with shutter speed set to "bulb", when ON is selected for Long Exp. NR in the shooting menu, have been approved.

Last word should be "improved" not "approved". Although I'm sure it was as well.

Alright, thnks all.

I do have version 1.01 and I wont be using Vista for the foreseable future. The Bulb and Noise settings change are the only things that I'm really looking at. My question then is hopefully this update to allow Vista Users wont interfere with XP users? I usually use a card reader as well and very rarely do I use the direct chord puter.

I upgraded my D80 the other day and to me it did improve the bulb NR. I had a small amount of amp noise and my D80 had the 1.01 firmware, now there is no amp noise at all and it maybe me but it seems the NR now works faster.

Jim

8 second exposure no NR used in post processin and auto levels were used like Thom Hogan uses to bring out the amp noise. As you can see no AMP noise. This was taken with the lens cap on.

I didn't type it, just cut and pasted from the website. Something always get lost in the Japanese to English translations. The manuals are full of such things.
