Hi All,
I wanted to know the correct cord/cable to buy for the following application. I have a D300 and a SB800 flash. I want to mount the flash on a bracket that is attached to the camera's tripod thread. So to sync the two together, would I use a male - female cord, or a male to male cord, or a female to female cord. The cord needs to be only 1 foot in length. Obviously, I'm not sure if the D300 takes a male or female fitting....same with the SB800. Thanks for your help! __________________

You can use the SC 28 (no longer available new ... or hard to find) or you can use the SC 29 cord with AF assist (newer and widely available).

For full TTL with a cord, you can use the SC-29, which is widely available. The older SC-28 and SC-17 are a bit harder to find, but they work the same. The SC-17 is missing the little security lock pinhole, but I haven't heard of any issues with using a SC-17 with the SB-800.
For dumb sync, this is the PC sync port on the D300 and the bottom port seen here is the PC sync port on the SB-800. My guess is female to male, but I've never used the SB-800 on dumb sync before. |

You can also control the SB-800 wirelessly using the pop-up flash on the D300 for full TTL, but the SB-800 won't go into idle mode and you'll run down the battery pretty fast.
