Do you think the new D200 will have a downward effect on D2X prices? I'm a great admirer of the D2X but would love it to reach a similar price point to the Canon 5D. Is this possible in the short term?

Dream on! Yes the D200 will have an effect on D2X sales but not to that extent. Prices are already being discounted as demand slackens anyway. This is the Nikon flagship and as such commands a flagship price. Wait a few years until the new D3X comes out - but don't hold your breath.

I'm just thinking of the current situation. In the UK the Canon 5D came on the market with a retail price of around £2500 (around $4300). Within a month or two it could be picked up for around £1990 ($3400). A drop of $900 is quite significant. If the D2X performed a similar feat then it would actually edge quite close to the price of the 5D.
Wouldn't that give Nikon a great opportunity to pick up the current wave of switchers? Once the 30D comes out then I suspect that the D200 wont seem so special, and the 5D currently has it's own niche with no competition at that price/performance point. __________________
