Default 14-24 ON MY D2XS.

Hi, everyone. I've visited big show here, in NYC, yesterday. You couldn't believe it - they let me set 14-24 on my camera! So couple shots here at 14 and 24mm, and 2 crops from each - from 100% to 400%. On your judgement, gentlemen. I may say, the lens, at f4,0, is the sharpest wide lens I've ever tried. One question only - will be it the same on the store's shelf? Hope yes! Dimitri.

Nice, Dimitri, NICE!

Did you happen to try the 24-70mm?

Sorry, Tom, no. But from I did see, the 24-70 is the same or even better - hard to believe, but true! Could you imagine? Dimitri.

Dimitri,

Thanks. I am absolutely hungry for the 24-70mm I have on order. I decided against the 14-24mm, great or not due to the fact that it will not take a filter. I am going to stick with my 12-24mm, albeit may not be as sharp.

Dimitri, did they say anything about when Nikon would be shipping new cameras and lenses? My dealer tells me they expect camera bodies to begin being shipped to fill orders around Nov. 15 and they have no idea about lenses.

Have a wonderful day,
Tom

Mmm... lens looks pretty good. Shame about the filter situation.

When I eventually move to a 24x36mm sensor camera I'm sticking to the 17-35mm f/2.8. For now, the Tokina 12-24mm satisfies my limited ultrawide needs.

Tom, who knows keep silent. Who speaking knows nothing. I think-more or less - spring. Btw, my 17-35 looks more practical for my style and needs. It has, for sure, more CA, but what is the PS for? New 55-60/1,2-1,4 - that's all I need. Thanks for comments, everybody! Dimitri.

Thanks for the great news, Max. I guess that if you are correct, I will not have to worry about spilling anything on the lens this coming New Year's Eve. TeeHee.

Max, I was worried about spilling liquid, I was only worried about getting a maraschino cherry stem caught in the aperture ring. HeeHaw

When I started as a pro photographer, 45 years ago, with Leica, its 50 and 21, I learned - if you seeking ultimative sharpness, you must accept distortions - you have no choice! Look at Hassy's 40 - the same! Even today, my own rule of thombs still working - 14-24 at 14mm, f4,0. Do not forget - it's D2XS. So I am not waiting for miracle with this lens and future D3 - you cannot always win! You must pay your bill - take it or leave it! Sorry for some disappointment for less experienced people, but I still think - Nikon made it well - pros looking for sharpness with this lens, they don't need softer wide glass without distortions! Bravo, Nikon! Dimitri.
