Just why pray tell, is it so hard to find the proper lens hood when using a CPL filter?? These hoods are supposed to screw into the "FILTER" -- this does not seem to be understood?? Or, am I too 'old school?? Any ideas on this one? Even a call to NIKON did not get me the right answer to a 62MM filter, and no one has a clue as to what to use on the 80/400?? What Nikon told me was to adjust the filert, then install the regular hood?? Are they kidding
Oh yeah, I have an e-mail in to THOM, but no answer has arrived as of yet. ![]() __________________

Have you thought of ccontacting Kirk Enterprises and buying the appropriate stp-up or step-down ring or cutting out a construction papre sunshade from one of the templates available on the Internet?

Its a pain, and not exclusive to Nikon. However, I wouldn't want the hood attached to the front threads since I consider the hood as nominal protection from minor bumps.

Perhaps I don't understand the problem. I know that most newer Nikon hoods are not screw-in. But there are all flavors of aftermarket hoods that do screw in, providing of course that the filter has a front thread; some (the thin variety) do not. Using this approach you end up rotating the lens hood to adjust the polarizer. This is the arrangement you want; with the filter behind (shaded by) the lens hood. You also have to choose the hood carefully in order not to cause vignetting.

By the way, I have one of those Hoya collapsible rubber hoods and they are a great all around solution to fit almost any focal length lens without vignetting. |

I use the "Sonia" brand of screw on hoods for my Nikon glass. They screw right onto the filter, and have a lens cap that attached to the hood. When I want to polarize, I just conveniently turn the hood. Very simple and affective. Kiron Kid |

It still works that way, with the Sonia hoods. Kiron Kid __________________
