Default New Sony's cameras?

Very strong and powerful player is entering on the scene - Sony's investment ability is greater than Canon/Nikon combined. Some says Nikon-Sony will collaborate on camera's elements, instead of former Sony-Minolta union, but who knows? So question rised - what will be Nikon policy for nearest future? Dimitri. Wow, it sounds like a new generation in Nikon where no accessories fit the body and red-eye reduction changes to "Blu-Ray", I hope this is not true as the world will say "Bye-bye Nikon. take a walk Nikon Man."

...Sony -has- announced at several interviews that they are preparing a semi-pro and a pro range of digital (DSLR?) cameras, and they sure have the technologie in-house *and* the money to put it where their mouth is...

...but competition is always good for the customer, IMHO ...

...*my* €0.02 or less,

Kindest regards!

My hand is cramping from just looking at the mock-up photo. Looks uncomfortable.

I don't know, I like their idea with the vertical grip. I'd have to hold it to see if it was comfortable.

Just a serious thought.....Yes, I believe that competition breeds excellence. However, in order to breed excellence, I also believe that the competition must be for excellence and not for "market share" or just plain money. We, the users, ought to determine who wins, not the one with the most gold and the stoker to push it! GE does not exactly put more into society than they take out. Sony used to be a leader in digital home movie cameras at a reasonable price. Then they changed the lens so that no third party sunshades or peripherals fit. They removed the microphone and headset jack so you could not use quality sound equipment made by others. They modified the size of the accessory shoe so that it takes Sony stuff and no one else's hardware. And, they say this is HD. Oh yes, this is "HD" all right, "Hurry-up Downhiull"!

Yes, I think we need competition and a lot of it, but the competition we need ought to have the goal of improving the tools we use so that we can improve the results they yield in our hands. If they want market share and money, I think the ought to earn this by producing excellence. You and I have the control to ensure this if we buy smart and take great photographs.

Just my two cents. I no longer believe that big money is related to greatness or to competition, only to decadence and monopoly!

Wow, age has its privileges. Nikon made some of the best lenses ever. Remember Schneider lenses? How about Leitz? How about Alpa? Pentax has made some great Lenses and Mamiya has not been a slouch. Oh yes, let us not forget Canon.

A Zeiss lens on some cameras may not be of the same quality as some other Zeiss lenses as I think you will find that Zeiss lenses are also made by others in Japan and when you see "Zeiss" on these, it tends to mean that the optical formula is that of the original Zeiss lens. So soon old, so late smart! There are lots of good lenses out there.

Ah yes, Angenieux made some of the world's best!

By the way, Sony has even used a lower quality performing lens on their newer HD camcorders. Just look at the HC-1 and HC-2 and I think the HC-3 may be out. There was a time when if you wanted to buy a reasonably sized, quality amateur to semi-pro magnetic recording movie camera having a reasonable price tag, you had a choice of Sony, Sony or Sony. Then Sony decided to run the world. The rest is history and we have retrogressed IMHO.
