I recently saw a Nikon D2X camera body listed for $3099.00 at www.royalcamera.com. I called and asked if the camera was a grey market camera and could it be serviced by Nikon USA. They stated that is was a USA product and could be serviced by Nikon USA. The price is very low and I am still not comfortable with purchasing the camera and learning the hard way that is indeed a grey market camera. If anyone has purchased a camera from royalcamera or has any additional info on royalcamera, good or bad, please let me know.

Experience has proved that if something sounds too good to be true ...
Of course it is possible that Nikon has decided to cut prices, but this sounds quite unpropable. Last time I checked, the street price of D2X was about 4,500-5,000 USD. In this kind of cases, do not send any prepayments. Use either the credit card or cash on delivery (COD). If this offer is true (propably not, but everything is possible), I need to consider D2X for the next summer! |

I tried to buy a camera from Royal Camera but they sat on my order for three months. They said the camera I ordered was not in inventory and they would have to put in on back order. In the mean time, they tried to get me to switch my order to a higher priced package that contained the camera and other items that I did not need. The packaged camera was in stock.
In other words, they used bait and switch tactics! That was the first and last time I dealt with Royal Camera. |

Run away!
Check out this site. It is the store fronts of most of the NY/NJ on-line retailers. Royal Camera is ther under CCI Camera city. Now would you buy from them? http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/ Rich |

I only buy from a small handful of online retailers that I have already dealt with, but I suggest that people always check here:

Most of the NY/NJ stores offer these low prices for the body only and then charge you extremely high prices for the rest of the package that you would get from Nikon.* Basically they split up the box.* They'll say $3000 for the body and then $500 for the charger, $500 for a $99 battery, etc. Then to top it off they charge $350 for shipping.*
I purchased from one of these and finally ended up with a good deal but it took about 1 hour on the phone to finally figure out the whole package.* And they lie, they lie, they lie!* Bottom line is that you save so little in the end, save yourself a headache and order from one of the reputable online stores (Ritz Cameras, Adorama, B&H, etc) and you'll get it at $4899 with no tax or shipping. Just my .02cents. Oh yeah, and they will tell you they will send you a camera kit, tripod and lens cleaning kit and it is hilarious. It has a total value of about $5. The case will fit a small point and shoot, the tripod is a 4" set of flexible legs for a table top shoot with a very small camera and the lens cleaning kit is 5 q-tips, a small rag and alcohol. I expected nothing from this, so I was amused when I did receive it. Especially after he spent 5 minutes talking up the "free kit". Lies, lies and more lies.... |

Deals too good to be true usually are, sad to say.
I just purchased a D2x and am going through the learning curve. If you are looking for a deal, meaning less than list price, I would suggest you call B and H and ask what the over the phone price is. I saved a few hundred bucks doing it that way versus internet ordering. |

I have bought from !7th St Photo and B&H at very good prices and both are accredited Nikon dealers. Why even think of going elsewhere at their prices? I made the trip from Europe to NY to buy the 200/400 f4 since the price difference is so staggering that with two nights in a hotel, the flight and all I was over $1,000 in pocket when I got home! Yes I know I could have ordered even cheaper from Hong Kong but the whole trip and savings appealed!
