Has anyone used this lens? I am thinking of buying it from a friend.

Thanks

Dave

What's to know? It's a great lens. Every version of it that there has ever been, has been a great lens. The only question to ask is which versions might be the best values. The answer to that depends on what camera you will be using it with (AF or MF?) and what applications you'll be using it for.

Personally, I use the earliest ED Manual Focus AI version of this lens, with great results. It cost me under $200 on ebay.

This is an outstanding lens and is really one of my favorites and I don't own it. I tested several (new and used) of the AF version on my two D70 bodies and some will AF and some will not. Be careful if you're using a D70 or D70s.

It is one of my three sharpest lenses (55mm macro and 105mm macro are my other two).

It is also sharp with a 2X teleconverter.
