Default Kenko tube help anyone?

I seem to be stupid.
I just got a kenko extension tube set for my d50.
I cant get any of them to focus AT ALL.
Not on my nikon 50 f/1.8 or my sigma 28-90 f/3.5
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
Arrrrrrrrrrgh!
thanks!

If you have an AF-S lens, they should work. If you have an AF lens, the extension tubes should have the slotted drive at the bottom of the tube where it will couple with the drive in the camera. I made sure that I ordered the tubes that have the drive coupler as I have both types of lenses. One other thing, be sure to mount the tube to the lens first then mount the assembly to the camera. Remove from camera in reverse order.

How far away are you from whatever you are trying to focus on? I'm sure you know that you have a very short working distance with such extensions.

I'd do as blumesan says and get close. I'd try it on the zoom first. Just mount it and then look thru the viewfinder till the object looks to be in focus, then press the shutter halfway to see if it locks.

Narrow depth of focus.

did you get the DG set?
The DG set has the contacts that enable A/F and metering.
The others are all manual operation.
