Nikon firmware for D200, D2X and D2Hs
Nikon has today issued firmware version 2.0 for three of its digital SLRs. The D200 gets support for the WT-3 wireless transmitter and image authentication via the menu (the use of which requires optional software). Updates to the D2X and D2Hs are far more extensive (probably the largest list of updates we've ever seen implemented by firmware) and include additional ISO settings on the D2X, auto-focus improvements, changes to menu options, new image processing options and playback information. I'm having a hell of a time downloading the update. I get it downloaded fine but can't extract it or uncompress it. It is named "AD2X0200.bin". When I try to expand it with stuffit or winzip it tells me that it is an "unknown archive format". Never heard if a .bin file. Anyone got any hints or suggestions?

aren't there instructions somewhere on the site?
Last time i did a firmware update on my D70 I just used a formatted cf card, copied the files to a specific folder on the card, stuck the card in the camera, and turned it on. There's a firmware update menu that you go through.

Look for some instructions.. should be pretty simple. Just make sure to read first.

The .bin files are the firmware files. You should get two files. When I downloaded them for my D200, I got A2000200.bin an B2000200.bin.

Put them on a freshly formatted compact flash card (not microdrive) one at a time and stick it in your camera. Press the menu button, and click on the wrench and scroll down to Firmware Version. Click the Version Up at the bottom.

When you get A done, reformat the card and do the same thing with B. Make sure you battery is fully charged.

Be sure to set your monitor off delay to the maximum time or "never" if available, so you won't miss the message telling you the current process is done.

The .bin file is the firmware image. Put it on a flash, put it in the camera, and follow the firmware upgrading instructions.

I'm curious if anyone noticed anything after an upgrade to D2X. I know I was looking for to the ability to clean a sensor without AC power.

I was wondering if anyone noticed any autofocus improvement? I'll be installing the upgrade tomorrow and hopfully I'll get time to shoot this weekend.
