My wife and I have outgrown out Sony Alpha 390 and Kit lenses. Soon, we will be purchasing a Nikon D7000 and we are considering starting with Tameron Lenses
90 mm Macro, 70 -200 2.8, 28-75 2.8, Im also debating between the Nikkor 85 mm either the 1.8 or the 1.4 (huge price jump). Eventually looking to a wide angle lens / Asphereical. We are shooting portraits, stock and some commercial work. Any recommendation would be great..... __________________

You can get Tamron lenses in a mount that fits the Sony if you like. I am sure about the 28-75mm f/2.8 because I almost bought one myself as an alternative to a kit lens for a Konica-Minolta 5D, but the 5D body had been sold just before I ordered it. I changed my order to a Canon body and the lens to a Canon mount. It is my favorite lens. Of course, Tamron lenses come in Nikon fit also. The Tamron 28-75mm makes a good focal length range for portraits, but the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 makes a better-performing alternative to the kit lens. If you are after image quality, get the older non-VC version; Tamron compromised on the optics of the newer version. I have no personal experience with the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, but that one has its fans too.

if i were you i would look for sigma glass because i rate it higher than tamrom glass especially the tamroms are in wide angle zoom sooner 6.3 than 5.6 wich is more than 1 1/2 stop difference , and the glass of sigma is better if you go for the ex series. I could play advocate to ask if you and your wife have reached and used 100% of the A390 camera and kit lenses .But since you decide more or less to switch i would also ask a deal for the d7000 with nikon glass , the nikon 70-200 vr f 2.8 is cool but expensive , the tamrom 70-200 f.28 will be a heck of a lot cheaper i would see that overlap is as less as possible because the 90 mm reach is also in the 70-200 included as well as the 85 either in f1.8 or 1.4 ( they say the bokeh of the 1.4 is better and nicer but i find the bokeh of the 1.8 good enough and i sold my 85 f 1.8 because i barely use it and need the money for other things) |

Not that Sigma's are bad, but tamron is usually considered to have slightly better image quality then sigma. Especially the 28-75 2.8.

You can't expect excellent performance from a zoom over 7:1 or 10:1 focal length range. Sigma also makes better-performing lenses than the 28-105mm f/2.8-4, such as 24-60mm f/2.8 or the 24-70mm f/2.8, though with somewhat less zoom range.

We have spent a great deal of time wrestling our sony alpha 390, it has served us well but has limitations, low iso, slow shutter speed and FPS and we found the most limitations on the amount and quality of accessories. We did a lot of research and found that the Nikon d7000 was a logical step up, made more available to us and once we got our hands on it, we found it so easy to use, everything was at our finger tips and it was faster and more reactive even with its kit lens, than our sony Alpha.
