D50, SB-600
Question 1: Can this combo be wireless? I've seen it implied here and there. Question 2: Which cord should I get for handheld? I'll only be using the one flash unit, and its mostly for nature macro. Occasionally tripod mounted. Thanks in advance! __________________

The D50 does not have a commander flash mode for TTL or AA flash operation with the SB-600.* If the SB-600 has an SU-4 module (like the SB-800) you can rig the flash to fire in response to the pop-up flash, but you cannot control the flash output of the SB-600 from the D50.* There's an SU-4 module you can purchase to add to the bottom of the flash if it doesn't have one built in.
The SC-17 is the old i-TTL sync cord that retains camera/flash communication; I don't know the part number of the new one compatible with i-TTL.* I think it's SC-28 but I don't know.* You should check your instruction manual to see which one is apporpriate. |

While the speedlight manuals are pretty horrid, try the 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S VR manual. It's, believe it or not, worse than my SB-800 manual. Doesn't explain a damn thing.

Wow, this thread is old.
I ended up with a SC-29 myself, as it retains the AF assist functionality. Also, the SB-600 has no internal SU-4 module. |

Oldie but a goodie.
I have an extra SC17 that I may part with. I purchased the SC-29 about a year ago. Both would work either way. I don't remember if the SB600 has a connection to rig it to a pocketwizard. I know I do it with the SB800's sometimes because I don't have a commander. Julio |
