Default HS-9 for AF 50mm f1.4?

I'm hoping I get a yes. I am wondering if the HS-9 lens hood for Nikon's 50mm 1.4 AIS can be used on the AF version seeing that they are the same size. I would rather a nice metal one instead of the rubber one (HR-2) since a main reasin for hetting a hood for me personally is for protection. Does anyone know? Thanks

Yes, it should work, as it's a 52mm size.* It's a bit heavy on the front of a plastic AF lens though, and doesn't really provide a lot of coverage.* Personally, I prefer the HR-2 rubber hood (mine says 55mm f/1.2 on it), but that's mainly because I can cap the lens with the rubber hood attached.* Also, I can cup the rubber hood against glass to minimize reflections from light sources behind me if I have to. My 50mm f/1.8D gets a lot of courtside action, so I really am only supposed to be using the rubber hood anyhow. LOL

I've heard of people using hoods for the 105mm f/2.5 AIS Nikkor on the 50mm lenses on digital without vignetting due to the APS-C sensor size, but I've not tried this myself.* I am thinking about looking into this, as the 105mm hoods look to be better suited for protection.

I have found that the HS-4 from my old 105mm f/2.5, which is twice as deep as the regular hoods for the 50mm lenses, works great with the DX sensor crop. I don't see any vignetting.

How does the HS-4 handle on the front of the plastic 50mm's? The HS-9 feels bad enough, but the HS-4 is bigger.
