Default Moose, Kenai Peninsula, AK

The sheer number of these great giants are among the many things that make our 49th State unique. I wanted to get a shot from his front but, he didn't oblige me, he kept sitting there and waited me out. Obviously this guy knew he had nmore time to spare than I did. It was either shoot from the rear or walk around in front which I didn't think would be a good idea.

A wise move on your part to stay behind & away... even though his rack looks velvety-smooth, I'm sure that it'd hurt like all heck if he'd run you over with 'em...

I do like the fact that you've captured the finer detail in his fur. Well done

The shadow of the antlers is kind of neat, too. I like that you didn't crop into that. Probably you could have gotten in front if you'd been willing to walk allllllll the way around to the other side of the water. Then again, you might not want to bet on "probably" with a fellow of that size.

The area in front of this big guy was too marshy to walk. In fact the whole area was pretty wet except where I was standing. I wasn't wearing hip boots or waders and didn't feel like getting my feet soaked.

I did see a mother moose with her yearling calf about ten yards right off the highway in Soldatna, AK. I didn't have a camera with me though. I had just been eating in town and it was ten PM when I saw the moose and calf. This guy from the lower 48 isn't used to daylight at 10 PM.

Suffice it to say, I carried my camera everywhere else and the only saw moose twice more. I spotted a female and her calf along the Kenai River as I was salmon fishing. It was too far for a decent shot and rightfully the guide did not want to approach these two fine animals in fear of spooking them aditionally, I spotted a juvenile moose in the weeds on Big River lake. Again, this fellow was too far off to bother with shooting.

They are magnificent animals and a thrill to see in their native habitat.

Great shot of the moose and the habitat.
