This baboon was just inches away from escape on Labor day. It didn't occur to me that this was anything unusual...for him to be so close to escaping his enclosure, until the zoo staff started appearing around me. I could hear the talk over the radios about getting nets ready, and stuff about "deterrence...and 'just in case". One of the handlers suggested that he likely wouldn't leave his "ladies behind". He has been creeping ever closer to the top, and as he has gotten older and stronger, he can make the leaps and bounds to get handholds enough to climb up there. Anyway, they coaxed him down, and that was the last I saw of him and his "ladies". I'm sure there will be some work done on the enclosure to ensure he can't get up there again.
