Thanks Chiller, I didn't even notice the tongue until I got home and started on the shots!
It figures though as they were in the middle of feeding.

Thanks again,
Doug

I like the way the snow blurred in the background. Do you have one that you could just crop the head? With that backgroung, I think it would show nicely.

Agree with the nice capture. Really cool the way the snow is flying off the nose.

Do you like the second picture?? I think it is great, but, remember, you have to please yourself with your work. and, you will be your toughest critic.

I took it on myself to do some work on your picture. I hope that it did not upset you. It is not quite what I wanted because his head is level with his back. I wanted to get just his head showing.

Hope I'm not intruding, but I don't think this is an elk - some other kind of deer perhaps?

Please look at wilkopedia or run a search for images of elk. This is the American elk or watipi. It is related to the European red deer, but a seperate species.

My apologies - I was confusing it with the European Red Deer... Didn't realise they were so close.

It's wapiti (literal translation, white ass I believe), it would have been easier to identify w a wider shot

Skansen - Elk/Moose
Swedish Elk/Moose Warning traffic sign t-shirts
What’s the difference between a moose and an elk? « Nature Travels: Outdoor Holidays in Sweden

The last link's probably the best, and the second link's meant as a joke a joke, really, but see below...
Last link also, I hope, explains my confusion, although it doesn't really link back to the red deer...
Many guys from here (Germany) go on holiday in Sweden and come back with an Elk sticker on their car, which looks just like the silhouette in the T Shirt.
Was up there a few years ago. Wonderful country. Lovely people. They cull (for meat) about 1/3rd of the Elk population every year. Same in other northern countries, also cull a lot of reindeer for meat as well.
