Default Cape Buff

This wild Cape Buffalo image was taken in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

It was overcast. My zoom lens was set at the max of 300mm, so I had to crank up the ISO to 1600 for a hand held shot at 1/200 s - F/5.6. You can guess why I did not get out of the car and use a tripod.

Nikon D100, Sigma 70-300mm macro F/4-5.6 D

As someone who frequents the Kruger National Park on a regular bases, getting out of the car is not something I'd advocate even when you can't see any animals around.

Nice capture, they always seem much bigger in real life don't they.

About using a tripod, a bean bag placed on the ("window sill") door of the car does is a great alternative, almost all of the advantages, and none of the lugging around disadvantages.
Once again nice shot, these guys can be quite elusive for such a big animal.

Good idea. You got me thinking about a car window mount. I found one for $15. The big advantage is you can raise and lower the window to get the camera up to eye level.

That dude looks like he could do some damage! I would have been scared to even take a pic I don't think I have ever seen an animal that looked like this, his ears are cool looking. Thanks for sharing

This buff was an old patriarch. He was war torn and a bit feeble. The ten or so minutes I watched him, he was challenged by other males in a playful way, nothing serious. His ears I am sure were the result of some serious fights. Also check out the marks on his face and the slightly mutilated horns.

Default Patriarch being challenged

This is the patriarch jousting with another bull. Notice the larger size and scarred side of the patriarch on the right.

Those are both cool shots. We don't see too many safari shots here, so keep posting them!!!!

Beanbags are really useful tools. Here is one my son made fro me a couple of years ago:

Fantastic! The closest I've seen them is on the Africa Cam. Love to see more.
