I am not crazy about this photo in color and I kind of like the B/W effect, but I am not sure if this is working and am not sure what adjustments still need to be made.* Still learning the B/W curve in PS.* Any suggestions would be very appreciated.*
Michele So far I have done channel mixer, levels, brightness /* contrast.* __________________

I always try lots of things. In CS and CS2 there's the new shadows/highlights control. Often it helps me to adjust nature shots to reduce blowouts and increased detail in feathers and fur.
I find this control to be less useful for portraiture, as it tends to make skin tones artificial-looking. Perhaps it does the same with animals; I just don't notice it as much. There's also the new Exposure control in CS2. This I sometimes use, especially the gamma slider. I believe that all of these tools just provide different ways of doing the same things, types of adjustments that anyone with a good handle of curves can do. |

Well, I guess that knocks me out of some of those ideas since curves and I are very opposites and don't get along at all..
Thank you Jay for your advice. I don't have CS2 but do have CS. I will try the shadow highlight control and see what I come up with. Any thoughts on the way it is posted here? Thanks, Michele |

For that particular picture...I would like to see greater contrast (I'm anti-curves too, but I come with entirely too many of my own is why!
CS curves don't bother me). The lions (great pose from your subjects btw) just sort of blend in to the background a bit too much for me and I'd like to see them pop a little more which I think maybe upping the contrast would do.I love the picture though, great catch it is cute how they are snuggling. Not a problem. You may end up having to play around with some dodging and burning to get it just right, but I think the photo could be absolutely fantastic if the lions popped out at us a little more.
