The iPad and mobile technology has already affected laptops at HP, 27000 to be laid off.

I don't think so. I have both laptops and an iPad. The tablet is handy coming from a portability point of view. It is awkward from a typing point of view. I love being able to carry the tablet into a hot spot when we are traveling, to check email or look up the weather ahead. I hate trying to respond with the touch screen keyboard. Oh, sure you can add a more traditional keyboard, now it's not a one piece grab and run device. There are other ergonomics about tablets. How to view them without holding them and still maintain the ability to address them.

They are pretty good for reading, not so good for writing. I still like my laptop better than the iPad. Remember, the only purpose I had for getting the iPad was using it as a credit card terminal and cash register. It does that part, so I'm good.

no .. i ipad or any tablet is just a gadget to show out how great you can brag about it
laptops are imho still offering more , like more conection possibilities , better sound , dvd unit
and easier to hold

It will last until 2015 the first i buy a tablet ..

The tablet crowd (those promoting and marketing, I think) make a lot of noise about "cloud" technology whereby software doesn't reside within the device nor do files, only shortcuts on the device which point to the clouds. Who needs a few gigabytes of storage tied up with a movie when the tablet can just stream it from it's host.

That sounds really cool. Until you get the bill for your 3G or 4G usage. Kind of turns me off the whole idea.

I have an iPad, although never thought of it as a bragging tool.

I love the thing myself. Carry it everywhere with me. A great comms tool.

Solves the cloud issue. Love mine.
