Considering the 20gb portable kit is "only" $800 (from $2300 original) if you buy this, "this' ought to be relatively inexpensive, eh

I bet THREE of the Canon 5D's will be cheaper

But this ought to be quite impressive, and capture amazing images....

I'd rather get a nice car, along with a nice used 6x7 film camera, and a nice used 6 megapixel DSLR, all for the cost of that Leaf digital back.

Maybe, but if you can afford it, it's beyond "wow"
I have a 1ds and a P25, and there is no comparison IMO
In the full size version of this 22mp image, you can see all of the faces of the Bayon temple in the Siem reap, Cambodia.

Right, but I as someone who's NOT a working pro, I could still certainly match or exceed the quality of a 22MP image with a good drum scan from a 6x7 film negative. And my RZ67 outfit cost me well under $1000.

Mate, I'm no pro, just a tyre kicker with a camera habit.......

Plus for the cost of drum scans, over the number of images I take. Still cheaper IMO

The economics go the other way for me, by far. In my life, I probably would never need to make more than a few dozen high quality drum scans of 67 negs (as opposed to the typical scans I can get using a good say <$1000 MF scanner). In in those few instances, they would certainly more than be paying for themselves.

When 22megapixels aren't enough, consider film and the next Epson film scanners: http://epson.mediaroom.com/index.php...leases&item=89. Gigapixels might not be necessary, but are nice to have when needed.

Or, for just $39,000 extra, a nice 39 megapixel Phase One back on a Hassy or Mamiya
